Looks pretty messy.

When I first saw this on YouTube when it came out, I thought this was a great subversion to the typical deathbed/defbed video formula, notably Peter wasn't actually dying that much.

However, I did notice some inconsistencies with the way outlines were drawn, as some of them were wobbly and lacked anti-aliasing. This was from the other animator who worked on it, which you responded with:

"yeah, this animation was originally started by another animator, but I ended up redoing pretty much everything, though some of the bad outline work remained due to time constraints."

It also got age restricted and an alternate version with ketchup covering up the blood (albeit poorly) was uploaded. As of writing it's not age restricted anymore. This might've been foreshadowed when Bob from Bob's Burgers gets shot.

With all things considered, not too shabby and I look forward to what you'll post next.

~frog~

It's a nice, cute, and quick celebration of 900 followers. You even did the research and made them all 5 different species of frog. but when 900 followers you reach, make mistakes, you will.

I recommend not using video game music in your animations. It can potentially get it taken down (on Newgrounds at least, where the rules are strict about it)

Literally the same movie.

It does very little to set itself apart from previous Scooby Roo videos, aside from the backgrounds and the context, that's about it. It gets old very quick.

Another common criticism is with the animation. Yes, it looks very clean and looks like it has some skill and effort put into it, but so does Family Guy (the modern seasons), and the countless shows that ripped that off in the past decade.
It may be a little bit smoother than these clones, which all have a whole lot more than two people working on them, but to me it still looks uninspiring and could turn some people away.

It's serviceable, but I feel the focus is supposed to be on the jokes and writing, of which this is 20 seconds long and based on the same "What if Scooby Doo was a kangaroo in Australia" concept you used over 11 times already.

I suggest not only to try working on longer videos, but also try looking at other independent web cartoons for influence, such as Sublo and Tangy Mustard (the creator has also done some writing for Bojack Horseman), as just one example out of many on just Newgrounds alone.

I'm pretty sure Bandicam didn't exist in 1988.

Great song and animation as always. I’m noticing more use of the line tool rather than the brush tool to create outlines. 1-2 years ago this was only for backgrounds but now it’s being used on character models as well.

Since I primarily use the brush tool when drawing in Flash, it’s a teeny bit off in a lot of cases, such as various Flash cartoons from early 2000s, including a few of your own from 2004-2005, such as Pretty Fishy.

For an animated cartoon parody of Super Mario in 2001, not too shabby.

The visuals, although good for it’s time, don’t really hold up very well, especially in HD. Could use a lot of cleanup. I believe some of this was traced from official Mario artwork, to keep it accurate to the source material.

Speaking of source material, this is based on the Super Mario cartoons, mostly the SMB3 iteration. In this, Luigi takes over the Mushroom Kingdom, betraying his brother. This was before even LegendaryFrog hit the scene.

If you’ve watched anything from the late Randy Solem, who was prominent around the same time, you should check this gem out.

This is a neat little parody of Weebl's Badger song using Harry Potter characters, although it's a little short. Could go on for a little longer before snake Snape showed up.

Also a little bit of hindsight. Zekey, who worked on this parody of Weebl's stuff, would later go on to work for Weebl on some of his later cartoons. In case you didn't know that. Granted, he has improved a lot since this, but very few people ever get that chance.

While it was sort of impressive that you managed a 20 minute animation (which itself was cut from 50 minutes), despite the low effort, this one at under 2 minutes isn't as good animation-wise.

The only thing animating are the characters' faces, they're all using the same pose. This is extremely quick and easy to do. Try making the characters' arms move, like they would in real life, you know. A little bit subtle, but still gives off some movement. Not stiff as a bone.

Also a miscellaneous suggestion: Try instead shortening the name of the show to 'Enchanted Ones'. That way you don't need to acronym it.

TheMiamiDeSantos responds:

thanks!! and thanks for the name suggestion, some people are already calling it "The Enchanted Ones". This is a ep from what i call "demos from the first season", it was done back in 2019 along with the looong full lenght ep, so it's stiff in the same style. This one was a test of how fast i could put out animation in this style and reusing things like backgrounds and sprites. Once again, thank you, and i would like to see what you think of the other ep "The Largest Port in Latin America" it's different from this one and the long one (just 53 seconds long). Also would like to see what you think of the dub and the writing, i had the opportunity to show this state company ep to an independent journalist he liked the writing and talked about everything else too, the animation, the dub.

> The music was from Zelda and was in the dub itself. Not really the wisest legal move.

> I suspect that the comic was traced in the making of this animation. Easiest way to recreate someone else's style, which other animators such as Antoons use specifically for that purpose.

MaximizedAnimation responds:

I'd like to clear some things up:

1. I did copy and paste the links from YouTube, since I had uploaded the video there first, but I didn't know they said "Are you sure you want to leave YouTube?". If I had known then, I would have fixed the issue if it was a security concern.

2. I hadn't linked to the original posts since, at the time, I felt it wasn't necessary, but in retrospect, I do feel linking to the specific posts would have been a better way to credit the voice actor and artist.

3. I knew the dub used Zelda music, but I couldn't really do anything about removing it when making the animation and therefore didn't prioritize the legal issue. In retrospect, I should have considered the possibility that there would be a legal issue and put more effort into removing or at least quieting down the background music.

4. I will admit that I did trace over the comic, and I do feel ashamed that I resorted to such a move. I had just wanted to replicate the style as best as I could, and for the longest time, I didn't have a lot of confidence in my digital drawing skills, but I shouldn't have let that be an excuse. I wasn't trying to be shady with my methods of animating and uploading, and I meant no ill intent with any of the decisions I made when making this video. Since I made this video, I've put in the effort to stop tracing and be more confident in my digital drawing skills. I regret the mistakes I made here, but I don't want to be lumped together with other artists that continue to trace artwork.

Anyways, thanks for the constructive criticism, and I'll work on these problems in my future videos.

Jill of all trades.
